A quorum of the Fayette County Board of Commissioners met March 29 to discuss replacement of the aging Coastline Road Bridge in the northwest corner of the county. Charles Oddo, Steve Brown and Randy Ognio voted 3-0-2 to send a letter to the Georgia Department of Transportation agreeing that the county would pay half of the right-of-way acquisition cost for the project. CSX Railroad owns the 79-foot-long timber bridge, which was built in 1940 and has significant safety issues. The Georgia Department of Transportation would pay for and manage the construction. The commission’s action means that the project has a greater chance of being funded in FY 2018.
