Fayette County Public Schools plans to establish its first International Baccalaureate Program at Sandy Creek High School.

The Board of Education voted 5-0 on March 26 to begin the three-year staff training and infrastructure for the program, which will offer rigorous courses based on global standards emphasizing intellectual, personal and cultural development. Most of the IB teachers will come from existing staff who already teach Advanced Placement or gifted classes. The county plans to make the IB classes available to all students in the district. The initial setup of the program will cost approximately $83,000.
