A public hearing and comment period for Fayette County Public Schools’ upcoming budget will be part of the Board of Education’s work session at 2 p.m. on June 3, in Building B at 205 LaFayette Avenue in Fayetteville.

The proposed budget for FY2020 includes $229.45 million in the general fund, which covers instructional costs, pupil services, school administration, transportation and nutrition services. Another $7.8 million would be allocated for debt service, plus $20.7 million in special revenue funds and $725,000 of internal service funds. The budgetary reserve would be $22.9 million. At the May 20 board meeting, Chief Financial Officer Tom Gray explained that the 8 percent budget increase over last year is due primarily to $3,000 across-the-board teacher pay raises and a 2 percent cost-of-living increase for such staff as nurses, bus drivers and cafeteria workers.

The board will finalize the budget on June 17. The budget is available for review at www.fcboe.org.
