The Fayette County Board of Education is likely getting a pay raise, but it won’t take effect until the next board term.

The board voted 3-2 Monday to ask the state legislature for permission to increase the monthly compensation from $500 to $850, except for the board chair, who would receive $950 per month (up from $600 now).

Chair Marion Key said the board hasn’t gotten an increase since 1993, and does not receive reimbursement for in-county travel or meetings. The resolution said the raise is necessary to attract quality board members.

Leonard Presberg proposed the implementation delay; Key and Diane Basham voted against the amended version.
