Fayette County rejects zoning moratorium

The Fayette County Board of Commissioners voted recently to reject a 150-day residential rezoning moratorium proposed by Commissioner Steve Brown.

Brown said the county is receiving an “unprecedented” number of rezoning requests, several of which have been rejected recently because of concerns about density in traditionally rural areas and the effect on county infrastructure. But Chairman Charles Oddo called the moratorium “an extreme measure” and said that existing procedures can adequately address zoning issues.
