After receiving three bids, Fayette County announced on Aug. 23 that it has awarded a contract for $75,925 to McLeRoy, Inc. for a project to connect its animal shelter to the Peachtree City sewer system.

The facility, which actually sits on county property on Ga. Hwy. 74 South near the Wilshire Pavilion shopping center, has been plagued with septic system problems due to two saturated drain fields, causing waste backups into the building. As part of an ongoing effort to address concerns at the shelter, the Board of Commissioners agreed earlier this year to budget up to $83,065 for the sewer system connection.

No estimate was given for the construction timeline.
