The Cobb County Board of Commissioners decided Tuesday to wait until next month’s zoning meeting to consider whether to approve a Family Dollar store in south Cobb.

The site is on Brownsville Road at Pine Valley Road with Sweetwater Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses next to the tract.

On behalf of Family Dollar, attorney John Moore said he knew of no complaints from the church.

However, Commissioner Lisa Cupid said she had received 10 emails from the community expressing opposition because of crime, traffic and decreasing property values in this area that is predominantly residential and farmland.

Cupid made a motion to deny the Family Dollar but received no second. Then Cupid said she was “very disappointed in her fellow commissioners” for not agreeing with her.

Next Commission Chairman Tim Lee admonished Cupid to “keep your comments to the zoning instead of pleasure or displeasure with your fellow commissioners.”

However, Lee did commend Cupid for all of the research she had presented.
