The Duluth City Council removed and replaced an ordinance related to limousine services and taxicabs at its Jan. 19 meeting to align with the passage of House Bill 225 by the Georgia General Assembly during the 2015 session.
The new state law preempts the entire field of administration and regulations for cities and requires all for-hire drivers to obtain a for-hire license endorsement before driving for hire, requires all for-hire drivers to have specific insurance, and provides for penalties and related matters.
The new ordinance affects all transportation for hire services including limousines, taxicabs, ride share network providers and ride share drivers.
