Douglas County is celebrating its 150th birthday this year with a variety of events.

Board of Commission Chairman Dr. Romona Jackson Jones and the Board of Commissioners are hosting the events.

“The actual birthday date is Oct. 17, and that day we plan on celebrating all day and end the evening with fireworks,” said Rick Martin, director of Communications and Community Relations for Douglas County. “Citizens should be on the lookout for a calendar online at CelebrateDouglasCounty.com with a list of events for the year that will be updated throughout the year to alert people of what, where and when events will be happening in celebration of Douglas County’s 150th celebration.”

Among the signature events are:

  • Opens Tuesday to Dec. 19: Douglas County's Sesquicentennial Exhibit "Our Past." 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays to Fridays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.   • 6 p.m. Wednesday: Douglas County Black History Program: Honoring R. L. Cousins and Hutcheson High School. Douglas County Courthouse, 8700 Hospital Drive, Douglasville.

  • March 17: Douglas County Historic Site Trail Opening.
