Doraville City Manager Shawn Gillen has accepted a job as city manager for the city of Tybee Island, near Savannah. Gillen has been with Doraville since 2013.

He moved to Doraville from Grand Rapids, Minnesota where he had worked as city administrator. During his tenure here, Gillen has played a major role in updating many of the city’s operations including improvements to permitting, code enforcement and occupational tax procedures.

One of the things that Gillen said he is most proud of is the improvement to the management of the city’s finances. “This year, we completed Doraville’s first comprehensive annual financial report which allows us to qualify for a Government Financial Officers Association award for excellence in financial reporting.”

Gillen will officially leave his Doraville post in early June.
