A 49-acre property on Dogwood Trail between Peachtree City and Tyrone has been rezoned for higher-density residential development.

The Fayette County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 27 unanimously approved the switch from A-R to R-50, which will allow the construction of 36 single-family homes on the site. The request had already been approved by the Fayette County Planning Commission on Sept. 6, and requires a 20-foot buffer on the property’s southern boundary with Peachtree City. Developer Trent Foster said the homes would sell in the mid- to high-$300,000 range.

The property is surrounded by other A-R lots to the east and west; the commissioners noted that the rezoning will likely result in redevelopment of adjacent properties, increasing traffic on Dogwood Trail, although such development complies with the county’s current land use plan.
