Dense fog that blanketed much of north and central Georgia delayed some flights into Hartsfield-Jackson International Airports Thursday morning.

A dense fog advisory was was in effect from 8:10 a.m. to 10 a.m.

At Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, visibility dropped from 5 miles at 7 a.m. to 1/8-mile an hour later, according to the Weather Service.

The fog was affecting air traffic into Atlanta, as the FAA reported that flights were being held at their originating airports until later in the morning.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton told the AJC that high pressure sitting off the coast pumped low level moisture into metro Atlanta Thursday morning.

"Skies stared out clear, and as the temperature dropped to the dew point level, the air became saturated and the fog developed quickly between 7 and 8 a.m.," Minton said. "By 10 a.m., the temperature will have risen enough to allow the fog and low clouds to dissipate, giving way to mostly sunny skies for the afternoon."
