DeKalb Police has joined Nextdoor, the private social network site for neighborhoods.

The free site allows residents and police to share information on suspicious activity and safety issues. In addition, local events and other information such as lost pets can be posted.

The individual neighborhood sites are self-managed by residents. Websites are password protected and cannot be found on search engines.

Nextdoor is already popular in Chamblee where 16 neighborhoods are active on the network.
