A new comprehensive ranking of health for nearly every county in America finds that DeKalb County ranks No. 8 among 10 metro Atlanta counties.

The study of more than 20 measures of health and well-being by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute found that DeKalb has far more primary care doctors and mental health care providers per capita than most other counties in the state. While those numbers looked very good in Georgia, they were just average nationwide.

The study also found that HIV prevalence is almost three times higher than the statewide average and that the rates of children in poverty and of children in single-parent households were also significantly higher than the statewide rates.
