Initial zoning decisions on a pair of high-profile Gwinnett proposals — a substantial mixed-use project near the Mall of Georgia and a controversial "millenial housing" development near Snellville — have been postponed another month.

Both projects were scheduled to be considered Tuesday night by the Gwinnett County Planning Commission. Instead, they were tabled to the commission's Aug. 2 meeting.

The mall-area project would sit on 16 acres on the north side of the intersection of Mall of Georgia and Woodward Crossing boulevards and include more than 300,000 square feet of commercial space, a high-rise hotel and more than 400 residential units. The proposal was originally scheduled to be considered by the planning commission in June.

The Snellville-area proposal would bring 99 single-family homes and 300 apartments to a 56-acre site near Webb Gin House Road and Scenic Highway. Many local residents have rallied against the proposed development, which they believe would create traffic, negatively effect local schools and decrease their property values.

If approved by the planning commission, both proposals would still need the go-ahead from the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners.
