A Cobb County mother was arrested for allegedly allowing her three children to live in a home filled with roaches, raw sewage and mold, according to police

Shannon Lynn Byers, 42, was arrested Friday evening and charged with three misdemeanor counts of contributing to the deprivation of a minor, according to an arrest warrant obtained by the AJC.

Byers was arrested at the Smyrna-area home due to deplorable living conditions, according to Cobb County police. The woman's three children, ages 5, 14 and 17, required medical treatment. They were transported to a hospital by ambulance due to high body temperatures resulting from the home's inside temperature of 97 degrees, the arrest warrant states.

"The home was infected by roaches, which crawled over all surfaces of the home, including food," the arresting officer wrote in the warrant. "The bathrooms were in such disrepair that mold and raw sewage seeped on the floors; the sinks in the bathrooms were filled with filthy water."

Byers was released Sunday afternoon after posting $2,500 bond, jail records show.
