The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners Tuesday postponed action on a hot-button rezoning issue. Blue Ridge Mountain Recovery Center on Howell Bridge Road has sought rezoning from agricultural to office institutional to expand its residential alcohol and drug treatment center.

Neighbors have objected, citing security and noise concerns. After a Jan. 6 public hearing, the Cherokee County Planning Commission recommended the application be denied. At Tuesday night’s meeting, commissioners OK’d a 60-day postponement after the applicant asked for time to re-examine the request and further try to resolve the neighbors’ concerns.

Commission chair Buzz Ahrens commented he’d like to see the matter resolved within 30 days, if possible.
