Bill Rowling was promoted to be the next county attorney, after serving as assistant county attorney, by the Cobb County Board of Commissioners on June 25.

Rowling will replace County Attorney Deborah Dance who will retire in August.

In a legal career spanning more than 30 years, Rowling has served in both government service and private practice, according to a county statement.

During his 18 years with the county attorney’s office, Rowling has navigated public sector law, including constitutional issues, governmental transparency, ethics, zoning and codification of laws.

For the past six years with the county attorney’s office, Rowling’s duties have included staff selection, management and development.

Before joining the county attorney’s office in 2001, Rowling worked as an assistant solicitor for Cobb County and with the law firm of Holberg and Weaver.
