An emergency standby electrical generator will be replaced at the Cobb Civic Center and Jennie T. Anderson buildings at 548 S. Marietta Parkway, Marietta to provide shelter for more people in case of emergencies.

The Cobb County Board of Commissioners approved a contract to the low bidder on Sept. 24 with Capital City Electrical Services, LLC for around $153,333 to replace the emergency standby generator.

In service for more than 40 years, the existing generator has outlived its reasonable service life, according to Cobb PARKS Director Jimmy Gisi.

The replacement unit has a larger generating capacity and will provide emergency power to more systems in the Civic Center Complex buildings, he added.

This project also involves installation of additional electrical wiring.

The resulting system will allow the center to remain operational during power outages and provide shelter for more people in case of emergencies, Gisi said.

No new maintenance or operational costs are associated with this project.
