The Atlanta Children's Shelter will launch a "Clothing Closet" and Carter's Inc. will provide clothing on an ongoing basis.

Kids in Distressed Situations, a national nonprofit that provides new products to children in need, gets large companies to donate products and also finds agencies that can benefit.

The closet will provide more than 2,500 new articles of clothing for children ranging from newborns to ages five or six years old.  The closet is located at the recently-expanded shelter, 607 Peachtree St. N.E.

More than 50 children, including some from surrounding facilities, will receive clothing donations during a program Wednesday to announced the launch of the clothing closet. According to one estimate, there are more than 58,000 homeless children living in Georgia, many of them under the age of six. The launch event  is not open to the public.

Founded in 1986, the Atlanta Children's Shelter  provides free, quality day care, emotional support and an educational curriculum for homeless children, plus focused social services for their families.
