Two top city officials in Hampton have resigned in the past two weeks for unrelated reasons.

City manager Daryl Dotschay submitted his resignation Aug. 4 after just under one year on the job. In a letter to Mayor Steve Hutchison and the City Council, he said his last day would be Aug. 24 and he would be pursuing “other professional opportunities.”

Councilman Chris Moore, whose term is almost at the halfway mark, announced Aug. 2 that he would be stepping down effective immediately. He said the combination of his family, his business and city duties had stretched him too thin. By stepping down now he paves the way for the city to have a special election for his seat Nov. 7 in conjunction with the regular municipal elections.
