Members of a Missouri church youth group hurt Wednesday night when their bus careened off a north Georgia mountain road have all been released from hospitals where they were taken for treatment.

The crash happened about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Global Youth Ministry’s Fort Mountain Retreat & Conference Center, a church camp near Chatsworth in Murray County.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a bus operated by the First Baptist Church of St. Charles, Mo., was going down a hill when it went off the roadway and struck a tree.

The front seat passenger, an adult, was ejected through the front windshield and went down an embankment. The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, struck the steering wheel and was injured, the GSP said.

“The others on the bus, most of which were young people age 12 and up, suffered some type of injury,” GSP Cpl. Jack Lawrence said.

“Of the 24 people on the bus, eight were transported to Ellijay Hospital, nine went to Hamilton Medical Center and seven did not require hospital care,” Lawrence said.

WRCB-TV in Chattanooga reported early Friday that all the youths were back at the camp by Thursday evening.

Troopers have not determined what caused the bus to wreck.
