The former Buffington Elementary School in Canton has been declared surplus and will be offered for sale by the Cherokee County School District.

The Cherokee Board of Education voted to advertise for sale the Buffington Educational Services Center and its nearly 10-acre site at 4568 Cumming Highway. The district will be issuing a request for qualifications from real estate firms interested in listing the property, a school district spokeswoman said.

Buffington was built in 1910 and was last used as a school in 2007. It housed school district offices until this past school year, when special education department staff moved to the district’s main office in Canton.
