The monthly meeting of the Cherokee County School Board was delayed a week after an apparent natural gas leak Thursday afternoon forced the evacuation of school district headquarters.

The leak shut down Bluffs Parkway in north Canton and also forced the evacuation of the Cherokee County Administration Center. The leak was contained and Bluffs Parkway was reopened Thursday evening, Canton police said.

The school board meeting was rescheduled to Thursday, Aug. 22, with a strategic work session at 6 p.m. and the regular board meeting at 7 p.m. An updated agenda was to be posted online Monday, a district spokeswoman said.
