Cherokee County has retained a Woodstock surveyor for the proposed, $3 million expansion of the Adult Detention Center.

The Board of Commissioners accepted a $33,300 bid from Mitchell Surveying & Consulting LLC. Mitchell’s was one of eight proposals submitted for the work, according to the agenda packet for the board’s recent meeting.

Mitchell formerly was the surveying department of Ross Consulting Engineers and prepared surveys for prior county projects including the Aquatic Center and Patriots Park, staff said.

For the jail project, the company will do boundary surveys of about 130 acres, including 1.8 acres owned by the state of the Sheriff’s Office training complex; and topographically survey about 40 acres in and around the Public Safety Facility.

The assignment is expected to begin in November and take three months. Completed surveys will be provided early next year to the architects and engineers selected for the project, to be funded by the Jail Addition & Expansion SPLOST of 2012.
