Cherokee County will initiate Wednesday the first phase of “return to play” for high school athletics, with on-campus conditioning for fall sports.
No active play, camps or competitions are scheduled, according to an announcement by Cherokee County School Superintendent Brian Hightower.
The district is following recommendations of the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) and local health care partners in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. GHSA limits the number of players and coaches together to 20 persons in a specific area, such as a weight room or softball field. Social distancing will be followed as much as possible.
“Frequent disinfection of equipment will be required; locker rooms and showers will not be used; restrooms will be designated and disinfected daily, and students will use their own water bottles,” Hightower said. “All participants also will be screened upon arrival by screeners trained by school nurses.”
Neither a timeline nor details have been set for the next phase of "return to play." Information: https://bit.ly/2MAt2F2
