Traffic studies that may determine future improvements for Arnold Mill Road and East Cherokee Drive have been approved by the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners.

Lowe Engineers LLC will conduct both studies. The consultant submitted the highest-scoring proposals of 13 received for each project, according to a staff report to commissioners.

The Arnold Mill study, costing $27,000, will look at about 7.5 miles of the road from Ga. 140 to Neese Road; and the East Cherokee study, with a $42,000 price tag, at roughly 13.5 miles of the thoroughfare from Mill Creek Road to Ga. 20, “to determine the need for short-term, mid-term and long-range capacity and intersection improvements,” staff said.

“The intent of Cherokee County will be to share the information and project list generated as a result of this traffic study with the Board of Commissioners in order to prioritize SPLOST funds and complete some short-term and mid-term projects within the next five years to help increase the operations, capacity and safety” of the two corridors, staff said.
