The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has approved a $65,720 contract to determine improvements for the intersection of Batesville and Sugar Pike roads near Hickory Flat.
MaesAwyr LLC is charged with recommending the best solution and configuration for the intersection — traffic signals and turn lanes, or a roundabout — “based upon existing roadway geometry, existing utility locations, existing and proposed right-of way and total project cost,” according to a staff report to commissioners.
Batesville and Sugar Pike are two-lane roads that intersect at a four-way stop, staff said. Both roads have a single lane from which vehicles turn left or right, and there are significant delays during the morning and afternoon rush hours.
The project will be funded from county roadway SPLOST funds.
