Chastain Park’s new 40,000-square-foot play area officially opened Saturday with food, entertainment and, of course, play.

The six-acres boast a tree-lined, outdoor natural learning environment that was envisioned by some of the estimated 80,000 children who live within five miles of the park. The kids participated in park play events or school visits by Chastain Park Conservancy where they described what they wanted.

Officials say the dream playground is designed to challenge children to use their muscles as well as their imaginations.
