Canton city officials are looking for input from the public as they work to bring a plan to revitalize the city’s Rivermill District up to date.

The district includes the downtown loop and areas along the Etowah River. City officials hope the eventual updated plan will attract jobs, showcase the city’s history, encourage appropriate development downtown and along the river and make walking and biking easier.

City officials have posted a survey at project website cantonforward.com to gather residents’ thoughts on the possible uses of the area. Project officials also will be at the downtown First Friday event Oct. 2 to hear ideas.

Canton was awarded a Livable Cities Initiative Grant in the early 2000s to create a plan to benefit the area. Subsequent work under that phase included road improvements and streetscape enhancements.
