When the Canton City Council meets in a special called session Monday evening, council members are expected to utilize the renovated room that was meant to host council proceedings for the first time in months.
The city spent $750,000 to upgrade the hall-which was the sanctuary when the building served as First Baptist Church of Canton. After audience members complained last summer they weren’t able to hear meeting proceedings, the sessions were moved back to the old council chambers on the third floor.
City officials hired an acoustics engineer to analyze the problem, then made changes including turning a fabric-covered wall behind the council dais into a hard surface, replacing the textured ceiling with a flat one and installing paneling.
At Monday night’s meeting, the council will consider selection of a new city manager.
