Brookhaven has changed the speed limits on both Johnson Ferry Road and Ashford Dunwoody Road. In order to comply with Georgia Department of Public Safety and Georgia DOT requirements for the Brookhaven Police Department to be able to use speed detection devices, the city was required to change the posted speed limit on these streets from 35 mph to 40 mph.

Police Chief Gary Yandura was notified by GDOT and the Department of Public Safety that its permits to use speed detection devices would be pulled for the entire city if the signs were not in compliance. GDOT maintains speed limit ratings for roads that cities must comply with in order to be able to enforce speed limits with detection devices.

This change does not impact the 25 mph school speed zones along Ashford Dunwoody Road at Montgomery Elementary School, Marist High School and St. Martins School, which will remain as is.

The city is currently working with GDOT to try and change the posted speed limit for these roads back to 35 mph in the future.
