The Brookhaven City Council unanimously approved significant structural improvements to Murphey Candler Park, 1551 West Nancy Creek Drive NE and Georgian Hills Park, 2800 East Georgian Drive. These two projects represent a substantial step forward in the realization of each park’s respective master plans, which were adopted by the City Council in 2016.

At Murphey Candler Park, the city will begin the development and installation of the “Murphey Candler Open Space,” which will provide a new, 1.9-acre open space to the residents of Brookhaven complete with a walking trail that will run along the perimeter of the park. This open space will also be supplemented with additional seating to accommodate park-goers. The total cost of these improvements is $591,203.

Phase 1 of the Georgian Hills Park project will begin with improvements to the 3.6-acre park which include an open space field with Bermuda turf, an irrigation system and a walking trail that extends around the open space field. A playground, picnic shelter, and an outdoor basketball half-court will also be constructed. Infrastructure enhancements at this location will also include a redesigned parking lot and improvements to the sidewalk that runs along Clairmont Road. The total cost of these improvements is $1,221,118.24.

Both projects are anticipated to be complete in mid-January 2018.
