The work of Sope Creek Elementary students Ethan Pallas, Patrick Villarreal, Yewell Volin and Avery Hill earned their East Cobb school a $5,000 grant from Lowe's Toolbox for Education. The grant will be used to create an outdoor Children's Learning Garden at the school. The school received a grant last November from Keep Cobb Beautiful program

Woodward North second grader Ashi Jain finished in the top 50 worldwide for her age group in the World Science Day competition. World Science Day is part of the World Education Games sponsored by UNICEF. About 5.5 million students from more than 200 countries and territories took part in the competition, which aims to get students ages 4-18 excited about learning.

Trevor Langill, a seventh grader at Sandy Springs Charter Middle School, won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee in January. His written test score was among the top 100 scores in the state. He now will move to the state competition in Milledgeville March 30.

Sammy McClure Middle School in Dallas is one of several schools from across the nation that will have a student crew working this week's Scholastic Book Fair at the school. Student volunteers assume specific job responsibilities once they are hired and help run book fairs. Students are responsible for marketing, product selection and accounting. Students are also learning teamwork, leadership and problem solving among other career-readiness skills. This is the Paulding County school's fourth year taking part in the program.

Twenty students from Centennial High School in North Fulton recently competed against 3,000 students from all over the world in the National High School Model United Nations competition. The team from Centennial earned the Award of Distinction, the top overall award. This is the eighth straight year Centennial has place in the top three teams. Team members were also asked to speak before the conference on the final day of competition. Team members are Eric Beeler, Ken Taylor, John Russell, Chris Robb, Trisha Dalapati, Nikki Frieman, Caroline McCall, Brooke Gillman, Anna Mazzuckelli, Jacob Mcconaghie, Anna Squires, Michael Nozick, Steven Boyd, Neel Bhatia, Zachary Pollack, Chris Boyd, Jenny Wang, Monica Bhatia, Brooke Snyder and Sarah Hanson.
