Two teams from Duluth's Notre Dame Academy placed third and fifth at the Odyssey of the Mind state tournament. Team "Weird Science" coached by Susan Burns and Ken Lemons, placed third in their division. Fourth grade team members: Catherine Grace Sigman, Diana Robles and Elizabeth Slack, Kate Lemons, Madison Colletta and Stephanie Delancey. Team "Odyssey Angels" coached by Leticia Valencia and Isabel Brogi, placed fifth. The team of second and fourth graders are: Gabriel and Maxi Brogi, Theodor Chifan, Annabel Mallard, Sofia Rodighiero, Amanda and Melissa Valencia. Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college.

Art students from Brookwood, Mill Creek, North Gwinnett, and Peachtree Ridge high schools in Gwinnett County won awards at the 5th annual Georgia Watercolor Society Scholarship Show. Winners from Mill Creek are: Andy Cho, Jay Shapiro and Kara Yogan. WooJung Shin won second place. North Gwinnett High honorable mentions are: Calene Stamps, Kimberly Wang and Suzie Lee. Brookwood honorable mentions are: Sharon Pak and Whitney Dallas. Nayhun Chung from Peachtree Ridge received a special prize for her artwork entitled "Peace."
Three students were awarded scholarships in the 7th Congressional District Art Competition. Congressman Rob Woodall presented scholarships to: Kara Yogan, Mill Creek, first place; Hannah Snyder, North Gwinnett, second place; and Angela Kwon, Collins Hill, third place. Honorable mentions went to: Ha Troung and Alicia Howard of North Gwinnett.

Students from Cherokee County's River Ridge High School won first place at the Kennesaw State University Invitational Geography Bowl held recently. The quiz bowl format seeded teams from the first 12 rounds. In the afternoon, teams were seeded according to first round scores for a March Madness style tournament. River Ridge beat Cherokee High School for the win. Questions covered political, physical and human geography facts. Winning team members are: Mandi Stinson, Hannah Weeg, Phillip Aalfs, Molly Herring, Felicia Williams and Alan Tomusiak.
