Woodward Academy students Meghana Gudur, junior, and Catherine Van Orden, sophomore, were recently selected as recipients of the 2014 National Center for Women and Information Technology Award for Aspirations in Computing Georgia Affiliate. Woodward Academy senior Aja Jayne Rawden was runner-up. The Aspiration Awards highlight young women in grades 9-12 who possess an extraordinary aptitude for information technology and computing, paired with strong leadership qualities and academic goals.

Two teams of students from Holy Spirit Preparatory School recently traded tropical beaches for ancient landmarks, forgoing typical spring break vacations for class expeditions to Greece and Spain. The first week of March, under the supervision of HSP Classics chair Scott Schreiber, a team of 13 students ventured to the Mediterranean to explore the ruins of ancient Greece. The chair of HSP's modern languages department, Jessica Askins, toured a group of four high school students through the sights and sounds of Spain.

Delta Community Credit Union’s Canton Branch, located within Kroger at 6766 Hickory Flat Highway, has been named the Companies That Care Partner of the Year winner for Hickory Flat Elementary School for the 2013-14 school year. For the past several years, Delta Community has supported Hickory Flat in ways including serving on its education committee, providing montary funds for the PTA and donating time and supplies toward student testing. Delta Community was recognized for the award on March 18 at the Cherokee County High School gymnasium.

Four teams of fifth-grade students from Woodward Academy, led by Lower School science teacher Mike Murphy, were recently named Honorable Mention winners in the 2014 Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision Competition. The students are Patrick Kim and Brenton Norman for their B&P project, Lucas Verner and Alex Bates for their Media Glasses project, Abby Weintrab and Christina Kim for their Eye Glasses project, and Carly Breland and Ruby Sloan for their Equine Colic Sensors project. The students were commended for demonstrating innovative thinking in their exploration of science and its impact on technology, and the Honorable Mentions award places Woodward's teams in the top 10 percent of all ExploraVision project submissions.
