More than 150 LED-lit balloons will fill the sky over Snellville City Hall at 7 p.m. Nov. 11 in honor of Veterans Day. The ceremony includes keynote speaker Melvin Everson, executive director of the Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity, and a performance by the Singers Forever in Ministry.
The balloons, with LED lights placed inside, will be attached to tags which read “This Balloon Was Launched From Snellville, Georgia” with a space to name the veteran being honored. Those finding balloons are asked to let organizers know when and where it was found by posting on the Snellville Veterans Memorial Facebook page:
“It’s going to be a special night for our veterans,” said Mayor Pro Tem Tom Witts. “Looking up in the sky and seeing all of those balloons in their honor is going to be a fitting tribute.”
Balloons available for $4 at City Hall, 2432 Oak Road; Wild Wing Café, 1250 Scenic Highway and at the event.
The night will also feature the official unveiling of tiles that went missing prior to the Veterans Memorial opening earlier this year. Joining those tiles will be 97 new tiles created since the summer event.
