The city of Atlanta Department of Corrections will host its annual holiday food and toy drive at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21 in the auditorium at the Atlanta City Detention Center located at 254 Peachtree St., SW, Atlanta.

As in past years, the DOC collaborated with Grady Hospital Social Services and the local Veterans Affairs office to identify local families in need. Local businesses donated the food and toys that will be distributed directly to eligible families and individuals who attend the event.

“The holiday season truly is about spreading cheer and goodwill towards mankind,” said Chief Patrick Labat, Atlanta Department of Corrections. “Our staff looks forward to this event every year because it allows us the opportunity to serve the residents of Atlanta in a different way. Thanks to the generosity of several participating businesses, the Atlanta Department of Corrections is once again able to fulfill holiday wishes for more than 100 families this year.”

The annual DOC holiday food and toy drive was founded by Retired Sgt. Ellis Williams more than 25 years ago. Each family that attends the holiday food and toy drive will receive a box packed with donated goods, including but not limited to meat, fresh produce, canned goods and other non-perishable food items. Additionally, families who were adopted by DOC staff and participating partner companies will also receive toys, coats, clothes and other essential items while supplies last.
