The Buckhead Community Improvement District is expanding to take in the area informally known as West Village – the west side of Roswell Road, mostly, between Irby Avenue and Andrews Drive north of the Roswell-Peachtree-West Paces Ferry intersection.
West Village is expected to add $70,000 to the district’s annual tax revenues of about $6 million, said Jim Durrett, executive director of the Buckhead CID. The Atlanta City Council signed off on the expansion June 20.
The CID will now retain engineering and urban design consultants to work with property owners — there are 66 tax parcels in the area — to come up with site-specific improvements.
“Sidewalks are in disrepair or nonexistent, and there are places you need some retaining walls,” Durrett said. “We made the decision a couple of years ago to make the expansion to improve lighting, safety and streetscapes, to make it a more attractive and walkable area.”
