The Atlanta Police Department is accepting applications for an upcoming Citizens Police Academy, according to a press release. The program provides the public with an interactive and engaging inside look at police work. The eight-week course begins May 29 and is held every 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays at the Atlanta Public Safety Headquarters, 226 Peachtree St. SW.
The Academy provides citizens with insight of the department, an opportunity to experience aspects of basic law enforcement training and a better understanding of the operations and practices of the Atlanta Police Department. It includes approximately 24 hours of instruction with topics that include crime lab, 911, identity theft, use of force, SWAT, homicide investigations and more.
Potential candidates for the Citizens Police Academy must meet, these requirement:
• Resident of the Metropolitan Atlanta area
• At least 21 years old
• No felony convictions
• No misdemeanor convictions within one year of application
