Q: Is there a specific date when the construction in front of Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza will be completed?
—Janice Kane, Buckhead
A: The construction is part of the Peachtree Corridor project, and is expected to be completed in October, Brian McHugh, director of transportation and planning for the Buckhead Community Improvement District, told Q&A on the News in an email. This is the second of three phases of the project, which is designed to transform Peachtree Road into a more pedestrian-friendly street by adding "granite curbing and medians, hardwood trees, seasonal color landscaping, bike lanes, wide sidewalks, modern lighting, buried utility lines, street furniture and dedicated left turn lanes at signaled intersections," according to BuckheadCID.com. It is a "few months" behind schedule, McHugh wrote.
Q: Does the coaching staff of Olympic winners get any medals or other recognition?
—George Fox, Roswell
A: Olympic coaches are not given Olympic medals, but U.S. medal winners can honor their coaches by awarding them with the Order of Ikkos medal. "... The USOC Coaching Education Department decided that the Ikkos program and medal would be the perfect way to recognize our American coaches who assisted that athlete in their success," TeamUSA.org states. The Ikkos medal, named for the first Olympic coach in recorded history, has been awarded at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and this summer's games in London.
