Alpharetta city officials this week presented a plan to address persistent traffic problems on Kimball Bridge Road east of Ga. 400-but also plan further study.
Assistant City Manager James Drinkard said the proposal unveiled at a meeting of community meeting combines several earlier alternatives and includes extending an outside eastbound travel lane that now ends just west of Rock Mill Road to Waters Road and lengthening an existing right turn lane from Kimball Bridge Road to Northpoint Parkway. He said the concept wouldn’t require expanding the north side of Kimball Bridge near residential neighborhoods.
Drinkard said city engineers may modify the plan further based on feedback from this week’s meeting and will also look at potential traffic calming measures on Waters Road before holding another session.
Some area residents have opposed the plan, saying it would primarily benefit commuters “cutting through” going to and from Johns Creek and Gwinnett County, and would change the area’s residential character.
