The Alpharetta City Council has awarded contracts totaling more than $15.8 million for Rucker Road Corridor improvements from Wills Road west to the city limits, including new bridges, roundabouts and sidewalks.

C.W. Matthews Contracting Co. Inc. will be paid $15 million for construction, while Atkins North America Inc. will be paid $772,539 for construction project management, inspection and engineering, according to a council agenda packet. The council also approved an agreement with Fulton County to construct water main improvements.

Plans call for two replacement bridges, over Foe Killer Creek and the Hughes Creek Branch; and two new roundabouts, at Charlotte Drive and at Fairfax and Dennis drives. Dennis will be reconstructed to align with Fairfax. Rucker is to be closed from May 28 to Aug. 3, 2018, for the bridge work.

There also will be 8-foot-wide concrete sidewalks with pedestrian lighting on both sides of Rucker; 6-foot-wide planted areas separate the sidewalk from the street; and 4-foot-wide bike lanes from Wills to Charlotte.
