The city of Alpharetta has named a 23-year city veteran as its new head of community development. Kathi Cook will oversee a number of functions ranging from planning, zoning and land development to construction, permits and inspections.

Cook takes over from Richard McLeod, who’s giving up the position for personal health reasons while remaining with the city. Cook began work with Alpharetta as a public works engineering technician and construction manager in 1992, and has also overseen environmental programs and the engineering department.
