Alpharetta city officials are going on a field trip as they look to further develop the city’s downtown.

City council members and staffers will have lunch at noon Thursday at the Century House Tavern Restaurant, 125 E. Main St. Then they’ll tour downtown Woodstock to eyeball private sector development. The Cherokee County city’s core has grown over the last five to seven years and Alpharetta wants to see what lessons that made hold for them.

Alpharetta has seven outparcels slated for private development as part of the City Center project. The city will weigh what form that development would take, as well as size and density, said Assistant City Administrator James Drinkard.

No decisions are imminent, as the city is trying to finalize selection of a developer. Residential, restaurant and retail uses will all be considered.
