The Marietta City Council refused Monday to place a proposal on Wednesday’s agenda to allow the sale and consumption of beer, wine and distilled spirits at Six Flags White Water.

Councilmembers Anthony Coleman, Stuart Fleming and Michelle Cooper Kelly, who said she works for a beer company, expressed concerns about alcoholic beverage consumption in front of children and safety concerns.

Fleming said this situation is similar to keeping liquor sales separate, by a certain distance, from schools.

Michael Sard, attorney for the water park, suggested allowing one drink per person with ID - but no consumption limit until intoxication is evident, a park monitor, a security guard at the gate, a secret shopper program and employee training as well as limiting alcohol sales to May 1 through Sept. 30

Of the top nine water attractions in the nation, Sard said Six Flags White Water is the only one without an alcohol license.
