The Atlanta Housing Authority's board of commissioners approved a $257 million annual budget Wednesday with a projected $1.1 million surplus. The surplus will be transferred to its financial reserves.

The authority said it also expects to participate in about $100 million of development  of mixed-use and mixed-income communities with partners in the private sector in fiscal 2012. Currently it serves about 20,000 households.
