Piedmont Henry Hospital has named a new leadership team to run the 215-bed nonprofit community medical facility in Stockbridge.

Chief Operating Officer Deborah Armstrong will become chief executive officer when CEO Charlie Scott retires Nov. 1. Armstrong came to Piedmont Henry in May after heading Rockdale Medical Center for five years.

Her replacement will be James Atkins who joins the hospital as COO on Nov. 14, bringing more than a quarter-century of health care experience. He is currently with Rutherford Regional System in North Carolina.

During the hour-long ceremony leading to the unveiling of the statue of Martin Luther King Jr. at the state Capitol on Monday, many speakers, including Gov. Nathan Deal, spoke of King's biography.
