A trial in a lawsuit pitting two top Fulton County officials against each other may be postponed.

In the lawsuit, County Commissioner Liz Hausmann claims Tax Commissioner Arthur Ferdinand abused his authority when he revoked the registration of her Jeep in 2013. She claims he did it to retaliate after she criticized his use of a county take-home vehicle.

Ferdinand has denied the accusation. He says he revoked the registration because Hausmann could not provide adequate proof of residence to register the vehicle. He later renewed the registration after she provided the necessary documents.

The lawsuit is scheduled to go to trial Aug. 3. But Hausmann has requested a delay because her daughter – who initially tried to register the vehicle and is expected to testify – will be out of town.

Ferdinand’s attorney, Randy Turner, said he supports the move and the trial likely will be postponed.
