Interim DeKalb CEO Lee May has appointed a consultant, Dianne McNabb, to serve as the county’s interim chief financial officer through the end of the year.

The position hasn't been permanently filled since DeKalb's previous CFO, Gwen Brown-Patterson, retired at the end of last year. DeKalb Chief Operating Officer Zach Williams has been handling CFO duties since then.

McNabb, a director for the financial advisory firm PFM, has worked as a consultant for the county for several years on issues including bond rating upgrades, general obligation bond reconciliation and the 2015 audit. The annual audit of last year's finances hasn't been completed yet because of a $1.3 million discrepancy in transactions.

“Her stellar career has given her a unique familiarity with DeKalb County not only as a resident but working as an auditor with KPMG and subsequently as our financial adviser,” May wrote in a memo to the DeKalb Board of Commissioners dated Tuesday.

McNabb will be responsible for financial controls, staffing, policies and procedures in the county’s Finance Department, according to May’s memo.

A permanent CFO will likely be hired next year after voters elect a new chief executive for the county. Democrat Mike Thurmond is running against Republican Jack Lovelace in the Nov. 8 general election.
